My mistake

Well, the haircutting saga continues. My most recent hair post documented a short buzz cut that I was actually happy to do but the haircut didn't start out that way. I asked somebody I live with to help me even some things up and, well, with the help I got the haircut became less even as opposed to more even. So I cut it short, sort of. I cut it to a #8. For those of you who know a little about buzz cuts, a #8 is the longest possible cut without going to the scissors. I think that it is supposed to be about an inch long. I could be wrong, but I think that the standard extensions are in 1/8 inch lengths. Refer to this image for more information. The bottom row, red to blue, is #1 to #8. None of them is that long but there is a big difference from #1 to #8.

The other day, all I did was mow it down with the #8, no fading or blending of any kind. So today I figured I would fix it up a little just by fading it and evening up the top a little. I faded it from a #1 to the #8 on top. I had the fade looking pretty good and I was going over the top with a #8 just to cut down anything that was sticking up when I noticed a little long spot hiding behind one of my ears. I have really big ears, so this was no surprise at all. I snapped on the #2 and fixed that and then I put the clippers down so that I could look at things a little closer in the mirror. Somehow, I forgot that I had switched to the #2 when I picked up the clippers and I went right back to evening things up on top with a couple of long, fast strokes across the middle of the top before I noticed my mistake.
Long story short: I have a really short haircut now. There was only one way to fix that sort of mistake.
But it is okay.

  1. Sounds like something I would do. At least you're a guy and it will grow back fast.

  2. Uh oh. Sounds like something I HAVE done, but not to myself. Well... I guess that the "person you live with" who cut it previously will see it in a week!
